The Hellers Mainland, having climbed to the top of the Beko Netball League ladder last week, now sit at third on the ladder, having been defeated by a determined Central team 39 – 46 at the Lincoln Events Centre on Sunday 9th July 2018.

A fine defensive effort by both teams, was a highlight, with Central Goal Keeper Elle Temu being named MVP.  The Hellers Mainland defensive trio of Fenwick, Marshall and Peeters were outstanding.

However, it was a ‘hard watch’ for the nearly 200 cheering Mainland fans, as the Central team were ‘stifling’ on defence and the Hellers Mainland team regularly squandered possession on attack.

The Hellers Mainland attackers struggled with decision making under pressure and made a number of unforced errors.

A poor second quarter by the Hellers Mainland team, saw them in catch up mode for all of the second half but they were unable to make in-roads into the Central lead.

The Hellers Mainland team have a week to re-group, before their final round robin game of the season, against South, in Ashburton (EA Networks Centre) commencing at 1.10 p.m.

Waikato-BOP and Central are in the ‘box seat’ for the 29 July Beko Netball League Grand Final.  To reach the  final, the Hellers Mainland team must now win their game against South and hope that either the Comets beat Central or the Marvels beat WBOP.
