The South Island Junior Netball Tournament has been held in Christchurch for 20 years and is currently on at the Christchurch Netball Centre, Hagley Park, Christchurch from 9 – 11 July 2018.
It has become an important pathway for players, coaches and umpires to develop and improve their skills and abilities.
The group of enthusiastic school team coaches attending a netball coaching seminar some years ago are to be congratulated that they had the foresight and drive to set up what was a regional Year 9 and Year 10 tournament to give your players the opportunity to experience tournament participation. This fledgling tournament grew in just three years to become South Island wide and is now a very important part of the calendar of tournaments available for our younger players.
This tournament is about teams and teamwork, and the experience and opportunity to participate in a tournament such as this at a young age.
The tournament is also encouraging younger coaches to be involved and they are supported by adults and/or mentors, and Zone staff. It is an opportunity for the development of student umpires at all levels too.
