Netball New Zealand (NNZ), Netball’s national sporting organisation, has the responsibility for leading the development of the sport through Poipoia (the Netball in New Zealand strategic plan) Netball has a proud tradition of widespread participation and sporting excellence from grass roots Netball through to the Silver Ferns. Through its role of developing and managing national programmes for participation, coaches, umpires and officials, NNZ aims for Netball to continue to be the sport of first choice for New Zealanders. 

Netball New Zealand works hard to support Netball’s five Zones and 83 Netball Centres who deliver the game to its 140,000 registered members and 300,000 plus people who participate in the game annually, in New Zealand.

With a high profile, strong viewership, and love for the game in New Zealand, Netball New Zealand’s events and competitions provide the opportunities for kiwis to connect with the game. 

Employed by NNZ, and based in Christchurch, this role will work as part of the regional delivery team across Mainland’s 17 Netball Centres. 

About the Role

  • Fixed term – ending 30 November 2023
  • 30 hours per week

The key purpose of this role is to:

  • Build strong relationships with all stakeholders to ensure a sustainable Umpire development system is in place that enhances the quality of Umpires, Umpire Coaches and Selectors in Mainland.
  • Work with the Mainland Community Trainer to ensure there are enough Umpire Coach Developers to grow the capability of Umpire Coaches.
  • Utilise insights to enable and influence, empowering others to drive a locally led sustainable system.
  • Plan with Centres to ensure that Centre Umpire development needs are identified and a plan for meeting those needs is in place.

We are seeking someone with experience in sport or Netball development, preferably with a focus on Umpiring and/or Umpire Coaching.  Experience working in grass roots sport, specifically netball, delivering and coordinating programmes would be advantageous.

Building strong relationships and the ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders by sharing relevant information and identifying and dealing with issues effectively are key skills sets.

You have strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills that generate mutual respect and trust and can communicate strategies, inspire, and ensure ‘buy in’ from a diverse range of stakeholders.
